叶楷(1911-)
浙江杭州人。1932年毕业于浙江大学电机系,1933年留美,1936年获哈佛大学博士学位。曾任北洋大学、清华大学教授。抗战时任清华大学无线电研究所教授、西南联大电机系教授、系主任。1948年赴美,1950年后任密歇根大学教授。
在电子学、微波、线性和非线性电路分析等方面,都进行了卓有成效的研究。1945年,他从理论上考察了栅极支柱和不同电子管尺寸对电子发射角的影响,从而证明了H.C.Thompson在1936年的实验分析。1950年,他在对低压充气二极管的理论与实验研究中,推出了一些重要数据,如正离子的过渡时间和寿命,以及它中和空间电荷的效应等。
夫人姜淑雁女士为姜立夫侄女。

Chai Yeh
Chai Yeh, professor emeritus of electrical and computerengineering, died Feb. 15 in Davis, Calif. He was 85.
A pioneering researcher in the fields of photonics, fiberopticsand solid-state electronics, Yeh was a member of the faculty for 20years.
Yeh came to Ann Arbor in 1956 as a research engineer at Willow RunLaboratories. In 1961, he joined the faculty as an associateprofessor of electrical engineering and was promoted to professor in1964.
During his long and productive career, Yeh published more than 100papers in scholarly journals and symposium proceedings on radioelectronics, microwave electronics, solid-state electronics andopto-electronics. After his retirement in 1981, Yeh published twobooks, Handbook on Fiber Optics (1990) and AppliedPhotonics (1994).
Before joining the U-M, Yeh was a visiting professor at theUniversity of Kansas in 1948-1956. He was a research engineer at theRadio Research Institute and professor at the Southwestern AssociatedUniversity in Kumming, China, in 1936-1945 and a professor atTsinghua University in Peking, China, in 1945-1947. A native ofChina, he received his B.S. in electrical engineering from ChekiangUniversity in 1932, his M.S. in 1934 and his D.Sc. in 1936 fromHarvard University.
Yeh was a member of the first Distinguished Chinese-AmericanScholars Delegation to visit China in 1972 and returned many times toserve as an adviser to Tsinghua University and Chekiang University.He was appointed an honorary professor of the Shanghai University ofScience and Technology in 1980.
He was a member of several professional and honorary societies,including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering,Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu and Sigma Xi.
Yeh is survived by his wife, Ida, of Davis, Calif.; two sons andtheir wives, Yin and Elizabeth Tang Yeh of Davis, Calif., and Jen andSusan Fillin-Yeh of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Jing Guo Yeh of AnnArbor; three granddaughters, two great-grandchildren and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on March 24 in the EastRoom, Pierpont Commons.
